Portsmouth students and locals gathered inside Guildhall last night dressed as superheroes in an attempt to break the world record for the most people dressed as superheroes.
The RAG organised event asked for £1 from everybody taking part in the record attempt, with all proceeds going to Make A Wish Foundation, a charity which aims to grant wishes of terminally ill children that has granted over 9000 wishes since it was established in the UK back in 1986.
Even though they did not break the record, over 200 people participated, with outfits ranging from Spiderman to Deadpool. Co-organiser James Belmonte spoke to Pure FM, saying that “its great to see the community taking part, they are loving it and it is great to see the kids here having a good time.” One participant, Dave Wheeler, said he enjoyed the gathering, saying that he was “glad to make an idiot of myself for a good cause.”
The current world record for the most people gathered in one place dressed as superheroes currently stands at 1580 people. This was achieved back in 2010 when Dreamworks Studios organised the record attempt to promote the film Megamind.
