Heya Kids! Another week, another show. Thanks to everyone who listened in again or for the first time this week, it's always appreciated, especially the messages, they entertain me to no end. Well done to Liam who won himself a Freddo, unfortuantely for Crooked Radio's James, that means he still owes me one! New Slang won't be on next week due to the moving of the studio, so i'll be returning on 6th March with the 15th edition of the show. But here is a playlist of beauties from yesterday's show (20th February):

Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood
Telepathe - Chrome's On It (Gold Panda Remix)
The Drums - I Felt Stupid
Chew Lips - Slick
Slow Club - When I Go

Right. So. Yeah. New time for New Slang, moving from Monday evenings to Saturday afternoons. It's a bit of a change, I especially have to get used to the fact daylight exists during my show now, something i've coped without for Semester 1. But I came back with prizes to celebrate, with the lucky winners this time being Chris and Katie, who will both receive easter eggs as promised. Was very tired this week, and me and the CD drive on my laptop aren't on the best of terms at the moment, so I had plenty of technical issues doing it all off a USB stick, which although not a hard thing to do, still confused the hell out of me! Anyway here is the playlist from 13th Feb 2010:

Gorillaz - Stylo
Kindness - Swinging Party
Yeasayer - Ambling Alp
White Rabbits - Percussion Gun
Los Campesinos! - Romance Is Boring
Portishead - Chase The Tear
Everything Everything - My Keys, Your Boyfriend
The Drums - I Felt Stupid
The Big Pink - Velvet
Bombay Bicycle Club - Always Like This
The Maccabees - Empty Vessels (feat. Roots Manuva)
Vampire Weekend - Cousins
Gold Panda - Quitter's Raga
Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood
Good Shoes - Under Control
Dirty Projectors - Ascending Melody

So another big thankyou to everyone who messaged in and entered the competitions, it's all much appreciated. Tune in again next week where i'll have more new music, maybe some more prizes, hopefully some guests and probably alot of talking nonsense.

So. The last New Slang of Semester 1 has been and gone, but fear not, I will be back in Semester 2 (I think), and hopefully at the same time and day (I think, again). But thank you to everyone who tuned in this Monday for what was my 12th show under its current name (my show last year was called D.A.N.C.E. for anyone who wasn't around). There were plenty of new listeners this week, and I love every single one of them! a special thanks goes to Joel for being the only entrant in the 'free freddo' competition, which if you had tuned in for, you would have most likely have won to, and special thanks to Cara as well who sent in plenty of messages throughout the show! But here is the playlist from my last show:

Vampire Weekend - Cousins
White Rabbits - Percussion Gun
The Soft Pack - Answer To Yourself
Los Campesinos! - Romance Is Boring (Album of the Week)
Washed Out - Feel It All Around
The Besnard Lakes - Albatross (Freebie of the Week #1 here)
Dirty Projectors - Ascending Melody (Freebie of the Week #2 here)
Gold Panda - Quitter's Raga
The Drums - I Felt Stupid
Yeasayer - Ambling Alp
Blood Red Shoes - Colours Fade
Good Shoes - Under Control
Kickball - Sauvie Island (Request #1)
Brand New - Jesus Christ (Request #2)
The xx - VCR
The Sunshine Underground - In Your Arms
Beach House - Norway
Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed
These New Puritans - Orion
Lightspeed Champion - Marlene
Gorillaz - Stylo (Track of the Week)

I'll send out Joel's free freddo soon enough, so tune in next week (hopefully at the same time) for YOUR chance to win a free freddo courtesy of my student loan. There will also be new music from Hot Chip, Four Tet and Massive Attack as well as more pointless talking.

Howdy there people of the Internet! I am Jack, I write blogs, I also present a show, that show has talking (many pointless) and songs (mainly good). Here are those songs that I did play, in the order that they were broadcasted to your ears through the technological advance that is the internet, combined with the other technlogical advance that is the radio, making your ears happy and (aslong as you send in messages) me happy too:

The Shins - Phantom Limb
Late Of The Pier - Blueberry
Los Campesinos! - There Are Listed Buildings
Vampire Weekend - Cousins
White Rabbits - Percussion Gun
22-20s - Such A Fool
Chase & Status - End Credits
Teenagersintokyo - Isabella
Yeasayer - Ambling Alp
Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Letter From God To Man
Good Shoes - The Way My Heart Beats
Laura Marling - Goodbye England (Covered In Snow)
jj - Let Go
The Strokes - The Modern Age
The Ting Tings - Be The One
The Sunshine Underground - Coming To Save You
The Courteeners - Cross My Hear & Hope To Fly
Massive Attack - Splitting The Atom

So yea, thank you for everyone who messaged and tuned (Colin and Aaron especially), we looked at the albums of 2010, however Late of the Pier and The Shins will most likely NOT be releasing albums this year, incase you got excited! Instead James Mercer (lead singer of The Shins) has joined forces with Dangermouse (50% of Gnarls Barkley) to create Broken Bells, and Late of the Pier frontman Sam Dustgate is collaborating with a yet-to-be-revealed drummer on another project. Catch you next week! You stay classy San Diego.

Another blog entry! I bet you're excited? like when you find a £10 in your pocket? or when you discover Carrot Cake for the first time? That's alright, you're allowed to be that excited. So we looked at 20 bands to keep an eye on in the year that is TwentyTen. Here is the playlist from Monday 18th, although the last 3 songs were where I found extra time I hadn't accounted for, but all of the 20 bands have links to their subsequent Last.FM profiles, so you can do some research for yourself (if you want (but you will (cause you should (woo)))):

Owl City - Fireflies
Everything Everything - My Keys, Your Boyfriend
Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk
Gold Panda - Quitter's Raga
Ellie Goulding - Under The Sheets
Joy Orbison - Hyph Mngo
Egyptian Hip Hop - Rad Pitt
Delphic - Doubt
French Horn Rebellion - Up All Night
The Soft Pack - Answer To Yourself
The Chapman Family - Virgins
Teenagersintokyo - Very Vampyr
Hurts - Wonderful Life
Fitness Club Fiasco - Forest City
Marina & The Diamonds - Obsessions
Washed Out - Feel It All Around
Darwin Deez - Consellations
Chapel Club - All The Eastern Girls
Surfer Blood - Swim
The Drums - Let's Go Surfing
Weezer - (If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To
The Subways - Alright
The Strokes - Last Nite

so thanks to the very few of you who tuned in, hopefully numbers and messages are up on the 25th, cause you'll make me cry otherwise. Going to be looking at more new music for 2010, but this time, it's all those pesky bands who have already released albums and are coming back with more tasty musicalness. So we'll have new material from Vampire Weekend, Yeasayer, Good Shoes, Los Campesinos!, Laura Marling, White Rabbits, Blood Red Shoes, and probably others! as well as a look at a few bands who are hopefully going to suprise us with a new album this year!! (that includes you Julian Casablancas et al, it's been 4 years since Strokes album #3!)

It was requests central on New Slang's first show of the new year and the new decade! (exciting stuff! it's like cake and daim bars at the same time...), thanks to everyone who requested something throughout the show, think I managed to get them all played. Because this blog is actually being written nearly 2 weeks after the show, I fake warn you from the past that it will Snow soon and I will almost set off the alarms to Pure FM studios whilst attempting to do my show next Monday and in the end give up (I did arrive about 2 minutes before the show was meant to start), but never fear!! I'm back Monday 18th with my 20 bands to watch out for in 2010 on my 10th show! So it's 20 in 2010 on #10. (I'm liking the theme/coincidence that 20 and 10 sit neatly here). But the playlist for 4th January was as follows:

Late of the Pier - Blueberry
Chase & Status (feat. Plan B) - End Credits
The Go! Team - Grip Like A Vice
Atlas Sound (feat. Noah Lennox) - Walkabout
The Maccabees - No Kinds Words
Everything Everything - My Keys, Your Boyfriend
Delphic - Doubt
Miike Snow - Burial
Ian Carey Project - Get Shaky
Fever Ray - When I Grow Up
Bloc Party - Helicopter
Laura Marling - Goodbye England (Covered In Snow)
Fitness Club Fiasco - Forest City
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll
Wild Beasts - All The King's Men
Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone
Death Cab For Cutie - The New Year
The Coral - Pass It On
Bat For Lashes - Sleep Alone
Radiohead - Karma Police
Cut Copy - Hearts On Fire

so don't forget to tune in on 18th January where I'll be presenting the 20 bands to watch out for in the next year of musical lovliness!! including the likes of Delphic, The Drums, Ellie Goulding, Gold Panda, Teenagersintokyo and The Soft Pack. The week after that I'll be looking at the comeback albums of the year, with new material from Vampire Weekend, Los Campesinos!, Blood Red Shoes and Laura Marling!

Hope to hear from you next week! laters.
