appy summer holidays everyone!

Just a quick message to thank EVERYONE who was involved in Pure FM last year, we're going to be losing a lot of fantastic people to the world of work next year and you'll definitely be missed. Just a few that we would like to thank for their continuing support include Sam Elliott, Shrey Puranik and Chris Bleach. Good luck with the future to you all.

So, here I am writing the regular blog for "I'm Not Always This Nerdy"...ok so it's a few days late.
But there's a reason for that! I've just moved back home to Essex! Yes, being a first year student in halls means I gotta be out by 6th June, so I thought I'd leave a little bit early after I'd finished all my work to avoid any mad rush of people leaving on the same day.

ANYWAY...back to what this blog is actually about, my show! Haha.

This week's show was the last one of the academic year (see above for why) and even though I planned to do the show with Hayley as always. Unfortunately, due to an important issue that came up, she couldn't make it. This didn't deter me, I still managed to deliver an amazing show! :)

Hey!

So, I've finished a trilogy of shows for "Have You Got Soul?" (Ok, I didn't plan to have 3, but it's been late in the day I started it and stuff, so ssh, haha)

This week I had a bit more classic rock than I've had in the other two shows.

Ah, hello! This is going to be my last blog for "The Harder Edge" this academic year. As next week I return home for the summer after all my work is handed in next friday!

This week I played some metal classics (one which was a cover, but still great!) and introduced a couple of new bands and songs from old favourites!

I hope you've all enjoyed me bringing you the best in heavy music this year...and I'll return next year to blast you away with more heaviness!

Chris Bleach

...and im going!!!

This will be my second blog on the Pure FM website, so my blogs kind of bookend the year as my other one was written just before the launch on 28th September.  Back then I was an optimistic new member of the committee, thinking of all the wonderful things I do in my role of Scheduling and Personnel Manager.  Now I'm handing all my responsibilities to my successor, Tom Warren, who I am sure is as eagar to do well as I was.

It's quite weird having to coach a person on how to do your job.  You wonder whether the new guy will take everything that you say on board and do as you did for the rest of the year.  Perhaps they will disregard everything I've told them because they see me as a dinosaur who is out of touch, and they can innovate and revolutionise your position.  I'll have to wait and see, sit back and watch how things unfold from the perspective of a normal member again.

Next year Pure FM has the potential to trump the success we've had this year, especially with the new studios in place.  I've no doubt that the new committee will have many triumphs, so good luck to them.

Hey!

This week saw the second edition of Have You Got Soul? :) and this week saw me branch out to hip hop and folk music!

I started off with Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes doing a duet with Jon Bon Jovi on a song from their 1991 album Better Days.

So, after just over a year as the Pure FM Systems Manager, my time in control of code has come to an end. On Wednesday, the station held its AGM, where members democratically elected the new management committee for 2010/2011. The meeting tool place in Milidam Building, and as I write this, I feel like something resembling kryptonite is very close to me!

I wasn’t going to write a detailed post on this, but after reading Laura Patricia’s post about her experiences with Pugwash News, I thought I’d document my thoughts (it’s either this or more work!).

I first joined Pure FM on the 3rd October 2007. I remember the date because it was the first society I wanted to join. I then bumped into the  production manager at the time, Jenny Leggott, who told me more information about how the station was run, and training was booked for the 14th November. I was trained by none other than Fred Bradley, and my first show was on the 24th November.
