With Coldplay’s new album A Head Full of Dreams scheduled to be released at the start of next month we’ve been treated to the first single, Adventure of a Lifetime. The track seems like a fun, upbeat pop-tune more reminiscent of a super-charged Mylo Xyloto than something from the band’s last album Ghost Stories. If this is an insight into the upcoming album, it seems as if the band have taken the step into disco-pop which will be an intriguing jump from the group, who seem to evolve time after time and still deliver hits. If you’re a fan of Coldplay, it’s likely that you will enjoy the vibrant nature of Adventure of a Lifetime and appreciate the direction the band is heading. If not (and there are many vocal Coldplay haters), this song might just win you over.
In my personal opinion, it’s arguable that this is the best Coldplay single in a number of years and reminds me of the addictive qualities seen in Paradise, a song I shamelessly overplayed in 2011. It’s too early to say if it will recreate the success in a similar manner, but the catchy beat has certainly been ringing in my head for the past week and has garnered upwards of 3 million hits on Spotify already. It’s safe to say this will be entering the charts with force and you can expect to hear this playing out of your favourite radio station often. A self-confessed Coldplay sympathiser, I’m left itching for more. A special shoutout to the “woo hoo’s” that wind the song down in excellent fashion.
